ST JEAN D’ANGELEY FRANCE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The team took the long drive down to St’Jean D’Angeley for the French GP.  Riders Dominic Lancett (EMX125) and Todd Kellett (EMX250), were there to compete on this tough track in the hot sun.

First out was Dominic.

EMX 125:

QUALIFICATION:

There were competing in the EMX125 Championship at this round, so the class was split into 2 groups and Dominic was put into Group 2.  He struggled to get a good lap in the qualification and made a lot of little mistakes.  However, he ended up with position 18 and gained the chance to go through to the LCQ.

LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER:

Dominic got the HOLESHOT and hit the ground running until he hit neutral in turn two.  He lost a couple of places but rode a steady 4th for most of the race and with 3 laps to go moved back a place to 5th.  He had made it through to the main races so all was good.

RACE 1:

A good start from a bad gate pick. Dominic came round the first turn mid pack.  He rode a brilliant race but unfortunately the intensity got the better of Dom in the later stages of the race and he started dropping positions and only finished 28th in Moto 1.

RACE 2:

After the thunderstorms in the night the track was totally different from the day before; very wet and boggy.  Because of this no sighting laps were given to the riders.  Dom got another brilliant start and by the end of lap 1 he was in 12th position.  With some clever riding and good line choices Dominic made a few passes which took him into 8th place.  As the race continued the track got rougher and rougher with the bikes starting to struggle up the steep big hills.  Unfortunately Dom got stuck with another 5-6 riders and by the time he managed to get going again he was back down the pack and only managed to finished 28th.   This had been a very tough race.

EMX250:

QUALIFICATION:

After a few laps, Todd managed to settle into 11th place and then dropped down to 13th.  His quickest lap was on lap 6.  Todd completed a total of 9 laps and in the last few minutes he unfortunately dropped down the pecking order and just managed to squeeze through to the main race by finishing in 15th.

RACE 1:

Good start to Race 2, saw Todd in 18th.  A tangle on the opening lap with Jet Laurence, saw him drop back to 28th by the end of lap 1.   He made a few passes and settled into 20th.  Then on the last lap Martin Barr got the better of Todd and made the pass, which saw Todd bring it home in 21st

RACE 2:

Race 1 saw a great start for Todd, coming into the first corner mid pack.  Then he unfortunately got tangled with another rider and went down.  He restarted in 38th place.  Sheer grit and determination saw Todd come through to 22nd on lap 1 with some clever riding.  On the now very rutted tough track, Todd picked his way through to 10th place having a great battle with Martin Barr.  Martin finally got the better of Todd on the last lap and Todd settled for 11th place. This was his best EMX finish this season so far.!

QUOTE FROM DOMINIC LANCETT:

I know I have the speed and I just needed to work on a few things to put it all together ready for the next race.  All round I am happy with this weekend, not just getting into the main race but proving I have the pace to keep up with the top lads.

QUOTE FROM TODD KELLETT:

Positive weekend on the whole. I qualified 15th so went straight through to the main race.  Race 1 I rode tense and made it a long race for myself.  However a storm overnight suited me.  I crashed first turn but rode strong and finished 11th.  I’m happy with the progress and starting to feel a bit more like myself again.

QUOTE FROM TEAM MANAGER ADRIAN KIRK:

Good weekend with both riders qualifying and making steps in the right direction.  Both riders gave 100%
