Maxxis ACU British Championship Round 6 - Hawkstone Park 2019

THE TWO-STROKE STRUGGLES UP HAWKSTONE HILL

Round 6 of the ACU Maxxis British Championship saw Verde back down to two riders.  Liam Knight is back racing but young Dominic Lancett has damaged his knee and awaiting and ACL operation that will take him out for not only the rest of this season but most of next season too.

So racing at the Iconic Hawkstone track was Brad Anderson, pushing his two-stroke to its limit in MX1 and Liam Knight making a comeback from injury in MX2.

MX1 BRAD ANDERSON:

QUALIFICATION:

Brad didn’t enjoy qualification. The track was very hard and fast with very few technical sections.  Great for MX1 bikes to go flat out but not ideal for a 250 2-stroke to compete against them.  Brad really struggled and came home with a 21st place in qualification.

RACE 1:

Brad got a decent jump out the gate but didn’t haul up the start straight quite as quick as the 450 bikes.  He pushed on round the bend and in the first lap moved up to 10th place.  Not a bad race.  Brad kept a good consistent pace but couldn’t find a way past Luke Burton.  So Brad finished Moto 1 in 10th place.

RACE 2:

Race 2 went ok for a 2-stroke but an 11th place finish in MX just didn’t seem right for Brad Anderson.  A stacked class ruled out the top 5 places with Simpson, Searle, Nicholls, Kullas and Millward all putting in consistent fast laps, with Simpson finishing over 25 seconds ahead of every rider and 1 min 20 ahead of Brad.

OVERALL:

So 10-11 for 10th overall.  Not ideal.  This moved Brad down to 7th place in the championship, although 4th – 7th were still only 8 points apart.

QUOTE FROM BRAD ANDERSON:

I had the 2-stroke throttle stretched wide open and she wouldn’t go anymore!

MX2 LIAM KNIGHT:

QUALIFICATION:

Liam’s qualification was slightly better but still not as good as he would have liked.  He put in a good 3rd lap and came home with an 8th place in qualification.

RACE 1:

In Moto 1 Liam came round the first turn mid pack.  He put his head down, made some good passes and managed to move up to 8th place.

RACE 2:

Liam got a better jump out the gate in Moto 2 and came round the first turn in 3rd place.  He rode a good solid race.  GP riders Dylan Walsh and Alvin Ostlund, along with Josh Gilbert were way out front, but Liam wasn’t didn’t finish far behind 4th place Martin Barr and 5th place Ashton Dickinson.  So Moto 2 was a good rider with a 6th place finish.

OVERALL:

8-6 for 6th overall.  Not too bad.  Liam has now moved up from 11th to 9th place in the British Championship and is well on his way to getting back to full fitness.

QUOTE FROM LIAM KNIGHT:

Enjoyed racing today.  Starting to feel half normal again.  At least I am now back in the top 10 in the Championship.  Just a shame that there is only 2 rounds left to go.

QUOTE FROM TEAM MANAGER ADRIAN KIRK:

Some solid racing from both riders today.  Looks like Liam is on the mend.  He rode well in his 2nd Moto.  Shame for Brad.  He pushed the 2-stroke to its limits today but he was at such a disadvantage against the 450F’s at this track.  He didn’t stand a chance.  However, it is excellent practice for the EMX2t in Imola in a few weeks’ time.

Dominic is now out for the whole season, which is a crying shame but he turned up to support the rest of the team and pushed his mobility scooter to its limits.
