DOMINIC LANCETT QUALIFIES 6th IN LOMMEL

The deep sand track of Lommel was the venue for the EMX Championships last weekend.  Two of the Verde riders would compete, Dominic Lancett in the EMX125 and Todd Kellett in the EMX250.  Brad Anderson stayed at home in England, where he rode at the Two-Stroke Festival down in Kent and won outright.

QUALIFICATION:

EMX125:

Dominic had an excellent qualification.  His first lap pushed him into 6th place and he held this position throughout.  Straight through to the main races with 11th position out of both groups of 125’s.

EMX250:

Todd was in a tough group and sand is not his forte.  But he dug deep and managed to get 15th fastest and qualified straight through the main races too.

RACE 1:

EMX125:

A terrible start for Race 1 but Dominic battled through to 14th.  He then crashed out and ended up back in 27th.  Not to be beaten, he picked himself up and managed to get back to 21st.  Then another crash and fatigue set in.  It was a tough track to master and Dominic had never ridden at Lommel before, unlike most of the riders in his class.  So a 31st place finish in Race 1.

EMX250:

Todd got a terrible start, right at the back of the pack.  He was sitting in 28th position and it was deep sand.  He battled and didn’t give up.  He showed character and determination and managed to pull through to the points and finished 18th in Race 1 with 2 points towards the championship.

RACE 2:

EMX125:

Dominic had an excellent start to Race 2 and was up there with the top boys, sitting in 11th place for the first few laps.  The track was tough.  It was deep rutted sand and Dominic struggled.  He soon dropped back as the European boys got the better of him.  Finishing in 31st, he was the 2nd Brit home, with only 3 of them having managed to qualify to the main races.

EMX250:

Race 2 didn’t go quite as well for Todd.  His start wasn’t great and although he pulled through a few, he didn’t quite make the points in this 2nd Race.  So Todd finished 26th in Moto 2.

OVERALL:

EMX125:

So 31-31 gave Dominic 33rd overall.  Not ideal.  He has the speed and showed this in his qualification.  However, lack of experience of the popular, well known deep sanded Lommel showed today.  Fatigue set in and more fitness is needed to ride these tough European tracks.

EMX250:

18-26 gave Todd 24th overall.  Not quite the top 20 but he is gradually getting there.  Today he showed courage and determination and his laps were pretty consistent.  He is now sitting 29th in the EMX250 Championship.

QUOTE FROM DOMINIC LANCETT:

Saturday was an amazing day.  Qualifying 6th in my group and 11th out of all the EMX125’s.  Both races started out great, Race 1 I was in 14th and Race 2 I was in 11th.  Crashes and Fatigue meant that I finished outside the top 25 but overall I had a good positive weekend.

QUOTE FROM TODD KELLETT:

Qualified 15th and straight through to the main races.   It was a tough track to master and my starts weren’t great. I was determined not to give up and kept on battling to score a couple of points.

QUOTE FROM ADRIAN KIRK TEAM MANAGER:

Both riders gave 100% this weekend.  Dominic had an awesome qualification which shows he has the speed.  He just needs to put it all together and gain more experience and fitness now.  Todd really tried hard today and showed a lot of determination and character.  His results just need to be more consistent now.  Lommel is a tough track and both riders gave it their all.
